More from Normandy.

At the D-Day museum, it was ultra modern and informative.  They even had up to three hours of free day care!  Yipee!

Laney loved playing hide-n-seek, she likes it...but is not very good at it!
George continues to be Laney's BFF, here they are playing with the information speaker things you take on the tour.  Laney thought they were cell phones, it was pretty funny.  Her pants are so big, she is just a little midget!

St. Mere Englise.  This was the first French town taken by the Americans.  It was the 82nd Airborne group that came in to this town a little after midnight on the June 6, 1944.  You can see the parachute on the church.  Sgt. Steele actually landed on the church, was shot in the foot, played dead and was cut down by the Germans.  Matt was super thrilled to go to this town and museum since he used to be in the 82nd Airborne Division.

In an old WWII plane at the museum.

 Future soldier?
You go tough girl!
Tiff took these, playing tag with Mama.

Little play area in the hotel.  There was also an indoor pool that the kids enjoyed.

We visited and saw Utah, Omaha and Gold Beaches on a private tour.  It was really amazing to learn about all the history.  I am now reading The Longest Day and am really loving learning more.  Below is Gold Beach.
Left over from the bridges built on the shore to bring in war equipment.
Our group and guide.  Bonus:  little old French man in his beret!

This American cemetery had about 10,000 soldiers.  Our guide told us that after the war the families we allowed to ship their fallen soldiers bodies home but about 30% chose to have their family members buried where they fought, in France.  Beautiful memorial.  Only four women buried here.

On the tour, one of the areas that still had many pits from where bombs were dropped.
Looking out from one of the German bunkers.
George, Matt and Justin all ordered mussels at one time on the trip.  A guy thing?
 George and Justin.
In the quaint town on Honfluer, the kids rode this (me too!)

We took the kids horse back riding, they loved it!

Laney just on for the photo opportunity!  Colby loved his pony, now wants one for his birthday.

Heading back home to Germany, we went through the town of Giverny where Claude Monet lived and painted.  The boys and teens napped in the car while Jill and took in the cultural sites with the little peeps.

 Monet's water lilly pond.
A hood is also a good leash!
Next two pictures by Colby, my budding photographer.
