Valentine's weekend in Amsterdam.

AmsterdamMatt and I started a tradition three years ago to take a surprise trip on Valentine's weekend, just the two of us. The first year Matt planned a surprise Berlin trip and the second was to Paris. So, it was my time this year and I planned a trip to "surprise" (I fessed up long before the trip) to Amsterdam. We had a nice weekend and both really enjoyed Amsterdam. Below are some of the things we saw, we left early Friday morning and returned Sunday evening on the train. My honey on the local tram, we took this everywhere around town and we also walked for hours.
We toured the Anne Frank house, it is the 6th from the left. It was a very moving place to visit.
Matt figuring out the lay out of the Red Light District. This an interesting place to see, we've never seen any place like it before. The shops had a lot of things to offer a curious customer. There were many glass doors along the narrow walking streets with pink lights above them to indicate the offering up of services of "ladies of the night." We saw everything from what looked like overweight grandmothers to ladies that looked like they belonged in fashion magazines sitting behind these windows, strange, but a once in a life time thing to see.
Saturday night Matt and I took a canal dinner cruise, the food was amazing, so I took a picture of each course, much to the dismay of the people next to me. This is a duo of mini soups, cappuccino of peas and sweet red pepper.
Somehow the dessert picture came next, but not on the boat. Red fruits, chocolate mousse with a gingersnap and mint cream.
Main course, entrecote with cream of mushrooms, herb potato puree and seasonal vegetables.
This came before the main course, fresh tune with ricotta, sauce vierge and a crouton.
goat cheese
My all time favorite, bread with this oil dip, it was salty with special spices, I seriously wanted to lick the dish!
On the dinner boat, we loved looking in all the apartments and house boats along the canals, very cool.Heineken Brewery tour, free beer too!
True tourist shot.

As you know, pot is legal in Amsterdam, along with many other drugs, here were some of the drugs for sale at a local shop. There were mostly various mushrooms, etc. There were "coffee" shops on every corner, you could smell hash everywhere.
Lunch at the Hard Rock Cafe.

Delicious waffles, we each had one of the chocolate covered ones. They each must have weighted more than a pound, not to mention what they did to our bodies :)
On the train.

I love taking pictures of food and I've just stopped caring what people think. If I'm paying for it, I get to take a picture.-MattG
